The big mechs of our dreams...
So I'm sitting here thinking...Whats stopping the world from making mechs like in Gundam, or smaller ones that are more like Full Metal Panic? We have all the technology we need, do you realize that? Right now, in my head, I can already figure out how to build 75% of one of those things, why hasn't anyone else actually built one seeing how I have a fairly easy time? I don't understand...

Social class, solidarity, comunism and star trek
Ok. So you watch shows...So I watch shows like Star Trek and their form of government seams intriguing. Why? Because it is a socialist communist hegemony that works.
Now, I'm going to merge a few theory's here that I learned in sociology. Umm, lets try to give some sort of name to them. Evolution of mental development in a historical frame work, modernization of industrial based societies in a post-industrial country leading into a true post-industrial society, out sourcing of common industrial class jobs. The only thing I won't be taking into consideration [for the most part] is culture changes and implications of this concept/idea. Also, I may be wrong in some of my definitions seeing how I'm a second year student. Also, I believe that the definition of post-industrial should be largely based on the future education of a country as a whole instead of the concept of becoming a service-based country.

Right now I believe that Canada is at its cross road, we are technically a post-industrial country but we borderline on the modern industry (a step back from post). Throughout history you can see instances when a society moves on and develops spirituality, philosophers, and the creation of technology. The reason that this happened was that there were enough people and technology at the time so that some people didn't have much to do besides sit on their hands and wonder how they could move that giant block easier or what the meaning of life is. Its the lazy people that we should thank for us having computers today.
Right now we are intentionally making machines need human input in order to give people jobs, right? More then half the jobs that people do we could develop technology to make humans obsolete. Of course, unions wont let that happen (unions are bad in the modern age). The only jobs that are available are the burger king jobs, the selling of things, or tech support for a measly wage. We have an ok unemployment rate, but I bet most jobs are so horrible that you can't get buy for yourself let alone a child.
Canada needs to change. A post-industrial country to me is like an entire country that sits down and thinks those questions: how do we make it better, smaller, cheaper, faster, stronger, etc. With the amount of out sourcing of our high paying jobs, it stands to reason that more people are going to have a lot of time on their hands as we eliminate those jobs of material production. If you only have materials coming in, the only way to pay the government bills is to start producing technology as a country and start selling it for the good of the country. To raise the amount of educated people who can think up the answers or at least help perform the process to discover those answers. We are becoming a country that doesn't have the finished good to export, only the raw resources (there's a term for this, but I forget what it is at the moment).
What our country needs to do is to start educating younger, and to start broad specialization courses starting in grade 9. For instance, the first choice humanitarian arts or sciences and technology. High school needs to become more like college/university, every year becomes more specialized. BUT you should be able to go to high school for as long a necessary.
In theory, as people become higher educated and the over all education of our population increases over the course of 150 years, due to the amount of production leaving our country, chances are our entire economic system will be based on the select companies who hire the people and produce those goods. The answers I don't have is how to control this.
Also, the only thing that would make sense is that the educated people help those who are less fortunate in our own country. But greed is every where and that will never happen.
In theory, a country could become a major power in the aspect that it produces the highest tech equipment out there.
In the long run, Japan has a pretty good idea of what its doing.

I only ever get these thoughts when I'm reading too, what is almost never.
